Help an open-source project that scans, digitizes and publishes public domain books for anyone to download and read. This campaign, initially, intends to back the publishing of all of Plato's dialogues, the Aristotelian Corpus and the works of Epicurus. Some of them are already available:
- https://monero.press/library/Plato/Apology/
- https://monero.press/library/Plato/Crito/
- https://monero.press/library/Plato/Phaedo/
As open-source OCR models and LLMs get progressively better, monero.press will provide: 1) free digitized versions of public domain books; 2) interactive guides on computing and internet fundamentals.
What the money pays for
The goal is 5 XMR, until 27 April 2027 (6 months). It pays for the complete works of these three philosophers, every surviving work listed on their pages:
- Plato: https://monero.press/library/Plato/
- Aristotle: https://monero.press/library/Aristotle/
- Epicurus: https://monero.press/library/Epicurus/
Each work is transcribed from a public domain edition, in the original Greek, proofread against it, and published in TeX, in PDF (A4, book, booklet, large print, screen and other layouts) and in plain text. All of it is dedicated to the public domain (CC0): anyone may copy, print, change and republish it.
If the goal is not reached
monero.press stays up. Works can still be digitized on demand, each one with its own price and Monero address on its page, and the library keeps being digitized progressively, even if at a slower pace. What this campaign receives goes to these same works.
Progress
With the funding, every published work will be announced in the news of the site, https://monero.press/about/changelog, and in the updates of this campaign. The site also publishes the view key of its wallet, so anyone can check what each work has received: https://monero.press/about/faq
