What It Is

Crypto POS Terminal (CryptoPoS) is a native Android Point-of-Sale application built with Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and Room. It is designed for in-person, cashier-operated retail shops that want to accept cryptocurrency payments without relying on traditional card processors, custodial payment gateways, or third-party SaaS platforms.

The workspace contains two related projects. The primary application is crypto-pos-terminal-original, a full-featured terminal with six payment rails, extensive safety hardening, bookkeeping features, and over 1,000 automated unit tests. The companion project simple-crypto-pos is a deliberately minimal fork that strips the original down to its essential core: Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana observe-only payment watching with a keypad, QR display, and local sale history.

Core Intention and Mission

The project's mission was reframed in mid-2026 around a clear priority: this is a point-of-sale system first; privacy-coin tooling is the wedge, not the product itself. The target user is not a blockchain enthusiast running a technology demo, but a real merchant operating a physical privacy-conscious shop — a bookstore, café, or boutique that wants to accept crypto in person, keep accurate books, avoid processor fees, and protect customer payment privacy.

The design philosophy rests on a non-negotiable charter: the terminal never holds spendable keys. The merchant configures their own receiving addresses. The customer pays from their own wallet. The app only watches the chain (or a configured view-key sidecar) for settlement and records the result. This observe-only model means that even if the physical device is stolen, it contains no funds and no credentials that could drain a wallet.

Intention is to add as many payment rails as possible and offer book keeping integration.
